The International Trakehner Stallion Market 2011 saw the bay stallion Häwelmann as the new Champion. Häwelmann is by the elite stallion Hofrat, a Gribaldi-son, out of the highly decorated State and Verband Premium mare Heavenly by Artistic-Rock x Fahnenträger II. he was bred by Ilsemarie Peters, who also presented him in Neumünster. Häwelmann comes from the same mare family as the 1994 "World Dressage Stallion" and Dutch team silver medalist at the Le Hague WEG, Heuriger (E. Bontje). Häwelmann sold at auction for 140.000 Euro to the Luxemburg-based stud Pallerhaff, where he will stand at stud but will also be developed as a dressage horse.
The first Reserve Champion was Herakles, a black son of EH Gribaldi out of a dam by EH Michelangelo - Arthus. Herakles was bred by Mette Hansen of Denmark and presented in co-ownership of Mette Hansen and Gestüt Hohenschmark in Grebin, Germany. The stallion comes from close maternal relation of the former Danish "Stallion of the Year" Hertug. Herakles was not for sale.
The second Reserve Champion was the black Dürrenmatt by Hirtentanz out of a mare by Exorbitant xx - Habicht. Dürrenmatt was bred by Veronika von Schöning of the Panker Stud in Germany, and was presented by Gestüt Meyenburg in East Germany. The stallion sold at auction for 120.000 Euro to Gestüt Hohenschmark where he will stand at stud.
A total of 17 stallions was approved, 7 of which received a premium. Unfortunately for the Verband, only 2 premiums were for sale and overall, only 9 of those 17 stallions came to auction. The average prices were thus much lower than in the previous years.
New approved stallions included sons of Lauries Crusador xx, EH Herzruf, Axis TSF, Dramatiker, Distelzar, Grand Passion, Gribaldi, Hirtentanz, Hofrat, Imperio, Kasimir, Krokant, Ovaro, Singolo, EH Solero and Symont.
The Trakehner Verband announced the international Grand Prix dressage stallion EH Münchhausen TSF (by EH Hohenstein - Königsstein) as the 2011 "Stallion of the Year". Münchhausen was the Neumünster Champion in 1997, won his performance test, placed at the Bundeschampionat and the FEI World Championships for Young Dressage Horses and had an international dressage career under Danish Fie Skasoe. Bred by Ursula Schäfer of Germany, the stallion sold to Gestüt Wiesenhof in Krefeld, Germany at his approval and remains at stud there.
Finally, the Trakehner Verband also selected the new 3yr old National Champion Mare during the approval weekend in Neumünster. For this competition, all regional inspection champions compete in the Holstenhallen in hand. The committee selected the bay mare Kaija (by EH King Arthur TSF - Ivernel), bred by Nicola Offen of Hamburg, as the new Champion. The first Reserve Champion, and also the best Anglo-bred mare, was Isola Negra (by Lauries Crusador xx - EH Caprimond), bred by Karl-Heinz Schulenburg and owned by Reiner Kasch. The second Reserve Champion was the grey mare It's Pretty WH (by EH Insterburg TSF - Sir Chamberlain), bred by Jutta Wassermann. She was later a highlight in the mare auction. The best jumper prize for mares was awarded to Painter's Wolga (by Waitaki - Painter's Row xx).
