Final FEI rankings 2010

2010-10-18

For the second consecutive year the KWPN is the number one studbook for both dressage horses and jumpers, also holding the individual leads in both dressage and jumping.
Last year's individual leaders were the Olympic jumping champion Hickstead and rising dressage star Jerich Parzival. This year's top horses are Hickstead again and 2010 WEG triple gold winner Moorland's Totilas.

The final FEI rankings 2010 for individual horses and for studbooks are available here.

Dressage
The KWPN is not on its own to hold strong positions as this year's ranking in dressage displays the same top four as 2008 and 2009 with the Hanoverian studbook as runner-up, Danish Warmblood in third place and the Oldenburg studbook placed fourth.
The KWPN and the Hanoverians are two of the largest warmblood studbooks with the highest number of foals born each year. Nevertheless, it is impressing that both studbooks are represented by four dressage horses in the top ten individual ranking.
Two of the top four KWPN horses are by Trakehner stallion Gribaldi, and when looking at the 5th placed Westfalien studbook one will find that both Ehrentusch and Florestan I each have sired two of the six top horses counting for their studbook. Two of the highest ranked horses of the Holstein studbook on 6th place have Lorentin I as sire and the Trakehner studbook in place 9th have two top placed offspring by Buddenbrock.

Jumping
The top studbooks are closely ranked and nevertheless the KWPN manages to hold the lead for the seventh consecutive year.
After having ranked in third place for a couple of years the Holstein studbook have moved up and now places as runner-up studbook in jumping ahead of Selle Francais and Belgian Warmblood.
While all six holsteiner horses in the studbook ranking begin with letter C, and all descend from either Capitol or Cor de de la Bryère, the holsteiner stallion Carthago has also produced well outside his own registry. He is the sire of one of the best Holsteiner as well as the highest ranked Selle Francais and even two of the best horses of studbook Zangersheide.

Eventing
For the first time in fifteen years the Irish Sport Horse registry is not in first place on the eventing ranking for studbooks. They have been beaten, but only just, by the Hanoverian registry with 1375 points versus 1365 points.
The Selle Francais studbook has placed in the top three for a number of years and manages to keep their third place this year.
The improved position of the Hanoverian studbook is partly thanks to the late thoroughbred sire Heraldik xx who has sired not only the two best Hanoverian, Butts Abraxas placed 4rth and Butts Leon placed 8th, but also one of the best Trakehner eventing horses.
Apparently, no studbook registry claims the breeding of the highest ranked eventer, the 14-year-old Vettori by Voltaire.

The 2010 sire rankings will soon be published on this site.
