The 2009 Rolex Kentucky CCI**** was held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, USA last weekend. Attendance from other Nations was high – after all, the Horse Park will host the 2010 World Equestrian Games and there was much to “check out”.
The winner was Australia’s Lucinda Fredericks with her 15.3h chestnut mare Headley Britannia, a British Sporthorse mare by Jumbo out of Alans Bambi, an Irish Draught. The pair finished on their dressage score of 32.3 points. Without a doubt one of the best event horses ever, Headly Britannia now adds the prestigious Rolex title to her impressive record that already lists wins at the classics in Badminton and Burghley.
Second place also went to a female rider, Germany’s Bettina Hoy on her 18yr old grey gelding Ringwood Cockatoo. By far the leader after dressage with an amazing score of 28.8, the pair added 9.6 for time during cross country to finish on 38.4 with a double clear stadium round. Ringwood Cockatoo is an Irish Sport Horse by Peacock out of Bailey's Folly by Skylark.
Third place was won by American Bruce “Buck” Davidson, Jr on My Boy Bobby, another Irish Sport Horse gelding. The pair scored 39 points for their dressage and added 1.2 for time during cross country, to finish on 40.2 points.
