It is often said : the best promotion for the studbook is made by the horses themselves. That was indeed the case for the BWP-horses last weekend.
In Belgium, almost all equestrian attention went to the outdoor jumping competition in Lummen, where a lot of international and Olympic combinations participated.
On Saturday, the Derby ‘Topsport Vlaanderen’ was won by Jan Motmans riding the BWP Quick Chin (Chin Chin x Satanas des Vaux). In the history of that derby, he was the eighth rider so far who succeeded in having a clear round.
On Sunday, the Belgian Championship for 7-year-old horses was held. The winner here was again a BWP-horse, named Castelo Branco (Orlando x Lys de Darmen), ridden by Catherine Van Roosbroeck.
The Belgian team ended second in the Nations Cup competition: all four riders mounted horses with BWP-connections: Spender S (rider Jos Lansink) is a BWP-approved stallion. Vigo d’Arsouilles (rider Philippe Lejeune) is BWP and was horse of the year and Belgian jumping champion last year. Niels Bruynseels mounted the BWP-mare Aluna and Peter Postelmans rode the BWP-horse Top Gun.
Our neighbouring country, The Netherlands, could not participate as they had their national championship in the same weekend. However, the champions there, senior as well as junior riders, won their title on … BWP-horses: Jeroen Dubbeldam became senior champion riding the BWP Whisper (Querelle x Wendekreis). Wim Derks won the junior championship on the BWP-approved stallion Triomphe de Muze (Chin Chin x Galoubet A).
