De Niro by Donnerhall x Akzent II x Wiesenbaum xx (bred by Brigitte Pahl, Fockbek, Germany) has ruled the WBFSH Dressage Sire Rankings as the leading Grand Prix dressage horse producer in recent year. He entered the rankings in 2010 to claim 5th place and in 2011 6th. He topped the rankings in 2012 ahead of top progenitors Jazz, Gribaldi, Florestan, Donnerhall, Ferro, Don Schufro and Michellino and placed 1st again in 2013, placed 2nd in 2014 and has again placed as No. 1 in 2015 and 2016. The black hanoverian stallion De Niro was born in 1993 like to many other top sires such as Don Schufro, Gribaldi, Sandro Hit and Stakkato to mention but a few. From a young age De Niro proved to be one of a kind and alongside his outstanding breeding career he delivered top sport performances and won the Hamburg Dressage Derby in 2003. He has sired around 100 licensed stallions, numerous highly decorated mares and international Grand Prix dressage horses like Desperados, Delgado, D’Agostino, Dablino og Voice.

De Niro has suffered from laminitis and old age but has been able to enjoy his retirement since 2016 when his breeding duties were put to an end. He passed this morning at his home for twenty years, Klosterhof Medingen in Bad Bevensen, Germanywhere he was owned by Burkhard Wahler.
