The dark brown KWPN stallion Kannan by Voltaire x Nimmerdor x Le Mexico was very successful in international show jumping up to 1m60 under his steady rider, French Michael Hécart.

Line bred to the Furioso xx stallion line Kannan represented very strong performance blood and his sire Voltaire and dam sire Nimmerdor, both born in the 70's, remained huge names in international breeding many years after their passing and are still today considered very valuable in modern sport horse breeding.

In addition to his own tremendous success in international sport, Kannan proved to be a very valuable progenitor and became the sire of many international top horses such as Molly Malone V, Nino des Buissonnets, Quorida de Treho, Diva II, Padock du Plessis, Quabri de l’Isle, Oh d’eole, Albfuehren’s Paille, Quannan-R, Prof de la Roque, Sherkan d’amaury, Simba de la Roque, Carlito C, Rosana du Park, Quintera, Sultan du Chateau, Quenzo de la Roque, Kismet, Symphonie des Biches, Plume de la Roque, Baldo DS and Kavanagh IV to mention but a few.

In 2012, 2013 and 2015 he placed 2nd on the WBFSH Stallion Rankings for show jumping sires and in 2015 he was No. 1.

On 24 January 2020 Stud for Life published the sad news:

At the age of 28, Kannan was one of the best stallions on the planet. He could boast an impressive line offspring, including Olympic Champion Nino des Buissonnets, World Cup final winner Paille de la Roque, and also Quabri de l'Ile, Quorida de Treho, Oh d'Eole, A Big Boy and so many others.

Spotted by Guido Bruynickx, he started his international career with François Mathy Jr. before being sold to Michel Hécart with whom he went on to perform at the highest level.

This winter, the France Elevage Group decided to acquire the last remaining shares in him to become the full owner and thus offer the market the semen straws collected during his Belgian youth, as well as during his career at the Haras de la Roque stud.

At 28, Kannan was still in great shape. Still ridden for short hacks, he would go out to the paddock every day but this morning he suffered a heart attack that took him from us.
