Outside the German town of Nienburg Dorothee Heitmüller runs a traditional farm. For many years Dorothee has been breeding horses, and today she has four broodmares; three dressage mares and one jumping mare.

At a regional foal in 2001 she bought a very nice filly called Linda by Londonderry x Walt Disney I out of the Hanoverian dam line S1793. Just like her dam and her grand dam Linda became a state premium mare, and so did her younger fullsister Lady Gagga who has also competed at Inter I dressage level. At Dorothee’s Linda became a very good broodmare, and her first daughter, Bocella by Belissimo M also became a state premium mare and a broodmare in Dorothee’s breeding programme.

At the age of 11 Linda gave birth to a very beautiful chestnut colt foal by Don Juan de Hus. Dorothee recalls that the colt had a great character as a foal and and a lot of presence. He knew how to stage himself.

– I sold him as a foal to Heinrich Behrmann, Stedebergen, because at the time I had no opportunity to raise a colt. He is a renowned breeder who has had many stallions at the stallion licensing in Verden, Dorothee tells.

The handsome chestnut colt became the flagship of the Hanoverian stallion licensing in 2014 in Verden where he became the most expensive licensed stallion selling for 620,000 EUR to Helgstrand Dressage. He named D’Avie and for a couple of years he was co-owned by Gestüt Peterhof, Germany, who also owns Sezuan among other top horses.

After a very short time under the saddle of Severo Jurado Lopez the pair went to compete in the division for 5-year-olds at the LONGINES FEI/WBFSH World Breeding Championships for young dressage horses in 2017 and landed a fifth place in the finals, literally just outside the medals. In 2018 and 2019, D’Avie and Severo Jurado Lopez claimed the world champion title.

D’Avie has given Dorothee amazing experiences as a breeder and he has been the best marketing she could ever dream of. In June 2017 she sold Linda to the owner of Haras de Hus, Xavier Marie, because she had not had her in foal for three years. The condition was that Dorothee would get a filly back – a full sister to D'Avie.

– I also inseminated two mares with Don Juan de Hus, and Bocella – D’Avie’s sister by Belissimo M – got a very true to type filly with very good movements, and in the meantime, the filly from France has also arrived, says Dorothee, looking into a bright future with her breeding.
